Colorado is known for its “bipolar” weather year-round. We have nice warm summers that aren’t scorching hot. During the winter, the skies can dump tons of snow at subzero temperatures and the very next day it’s sunny and warm. The point is, Colorado is notorious for having some of the coldest winters and largest snowstorms in the U.S.. If you like snowboarding, skiing, and sledding down hills, there’s no better place to live than here.

One morning you wake up to blue skies and sunshine, the next you wake up to 10-12 inches of snow. You have to begin your day earlier to accommodate the winter conditions, like cleaning off your car, letting it heat up, and leaving early in case of an accident or slick roads. You also have to make preparations for your vehicle before winter: getting snow tires, making sure your oil is changed, and that you have the correct antifreeze.

If you’re new to Colorado, don’t be afraid to drive in the snow and in blizzard conditions. The vast majority of people, even I, have spun out on ice, lost traction, and had winter related accidents. Snow is unique and a gift from Mother Nature and not all states are lucky enough to experience it. My advice to you would be to embrace the snow, always leave at least ten minutes early, and most importantly, have the most reliable and affordable car insurance possible. It’s important that you’re properly covered when driving on slippery roads this holiday season.
